The DEI employee networks
Connecting and supporting people across Springer Nature -
At Springer Nature, diversity, equity and inclusion are at the core of how we work and who we are. Our employee networks focus on fostering dialogue around diversity, community building, advice, advocacy and sustainability.
Our networks unite people who share an identity – like being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a person with a disability or a parent – with those who support them and who want to learn more about their perspectives and experiences.
In India, the following Employee Networks support and connect our colleagues:
SN Pride: SN Pride is our network for the LGBTQ+ community and allies. SN Pride aims to help all of its members feel accepted, supported and included by offering guidance to the company, creating resources to support employees at work and at home, organising events and working together with the wider LGBTQ+ community in Science and Education.
SN Women: The SN Women is a forum to promote gender equality and support self-defining women across Springer Nature to achieve their personal and professional ambitions. The network aims to empower and inspire women, share knowledge and insights across the company, and build a real community to drive cultural change.
SN Parents: The SN Parents Network supports employees to meet the needs of both professional life and child-raising responsibilities. The network aims to encourage and support parents to reach their desired professional potential and foster an open-minded, supportive working atmosphere for them.
SN D&N: The Springer Nature Disability & Neurodiversity Network (SN D&N) provides support, advocacy and advice for employees with disabilities or impairments at a global and local level, and guidance for those wishing to support others. SN D&N acts as a unified voice on issues related to disability, advising on accessibility and innovation for Springer Nature, as an employer and as a business.
Our annual DEI survey
INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY SURVEY
We use the feedback to make sure our programmes respond to colleagues’ needs and our
actions foster an inclusive work environment. Through this survey, we aim to ensure that
colleagues are asked to self-report, rather than making assumptions based on previously
collected or assumed demographic data. This is an essential and progressive methodology that allows us to collect DEI insights.
The DEI Mentoring programme
In 2022, Springer Nature launched its latest 12-month guided mentoring programme for 85 mentee/mentor pairs. About 94 pairs took part in the mentoring programme in 2024 and 95 pairs in 2023. It connects mentees from three groups who experience lower levels of inclusion or are currently underrepresented in leadership at Springer Nature, as identified by the 2021 Global Inclusion and Diversity survey, with mentors within our organisation. Its goal is to help mentees to develop professionally by building new skills, expanding their networks and growing their careers at Springer Nature.
(check with L on the number of mentee and mentors in 23 and 24)
The DEI Learning Journey
The DEI Learning Journey is a programme for colleagues, encompassing activities ranging from virtual, instructor-led training and workshops, to discussions, e-learning modules and events organised by the DEI employee networks.
The Opening Doors Internship programme
An Internship Programme to support DEI and provide opportunities to students and recent
graduates from historically underrepresented groups. The Opening Doors scheme, initially
available in the UK and US, offers training and career development, and a chance to learn more about our recruitment processes and other business areas. This initiative aims to invest in a diverse talent pipeline, helping kick-start a successful career in research publishing for the next generation shaping our industry. We are exploring expansion of this programme to other countries including India in the near future.
