At Citi, development programs play a crucial role in advancing the firm's diversity strategy. These initiatives are designed specifically for the career development of women at various levels, featuring a structured curriculum and opportunities for participants to connect with colleagues, supported by a network of sponsors and leaders. Each program is tailored to meet the unique needs of employees based on their career stage and roles, incorporating coaching and mentoring opportunities.
Citi also offers a 12-month assimilation program for women returning to the workforce after a six-month or longer career break, known as the 'Return to Work' Program. This initiative has successfully facilitated over 600 hires in the past three years, demonstrating Citi's commitment to empowering women and enhancing diversity within the organization.
At Citi, the focus is on ensuring equitable representation for a diverse colleague base across all organizational levels through recruitment, retention, and advancement while fostering a culture of inclusion. To strengthen ongoing efforts towards inclusion and engage employees, Citi celebrates Inclusion Months each year.
These include Generations Month in January, Pride Month in June, Military Veterans Month in August, Allyship Month in September, and Disability Awareness Month in October. Each month features various employee engagement initiatives, such as fireside chats, panel discussions, seminars, volunteering opportunities, and Allyship workshops.
Citi has established nine active inclusion networks across five strands of diversity: Gender, LGBTQIA+, Disability, Veterans, and Generations.
These networks are dedicated to promoting a workplace free of discrimination while maintaining the highest standards in inclusion.
Citi India has made significant strides in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across these areas. Initiatives include partnering with special diversity recruitment agencies to source LGBTQ+ candidates and launching an LGBTQ+ Reverse Mentoring Program.
The organization also ensures reasonable accommodations are available for colleagues with disabilities and provides training on Disability and Neurodiversity Etiquette.
The Generations Network aims to foster an inclusive work environment where individuals from various generations and life stages collaborate to meet clients’ needs. This network works closely with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team to offer employees unique opportunities, such as Giving@Citi, which encourages contributions to societal betterment. This initiative helps employees gain a deeper understanding of sustainability and the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) pillars.
In addition to promoting various diversity strands, Citi India actively encourages the inclusion of Armed Forces Veterans in its workforce. The recently launched ‘Citi Salutes’ network celebrates Veterans and marks Citi’s first such initiative globally outside the UK and US.
Citi India also hosted Veterans Week to enhance focus on the Veterans’ inclusion agenda and honor their essential role in the country’s sovereignty, with over 2,500 colleagues participating in this successful event.
Senior leaders within the organization hold themselves and others accountable for cultivating an equitable and inclusive culture, supported by a sustainable business agenda and sound governance. Founded in 2011, the Diversity Steering Committee is led by the CEO, CHRO, and the India Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, ensuring that inclusion remains a core focus of Citi's organizational values.
